Belt Bag Tutorial

The materials you will need for this project is

I used Vinyl Fabric

Other Suggestions – Cork Fabric

Leather

Snap Closure

I used – plastic snaps

Other suggestions metal snaps with setter

other metal snaps

Cutting out your pattern, once you download the pattern you will be able to print out a template, if you can the easiest way of cutting it out is tracing around it with a pen, water soluable marker or chalk and cut it out with some very sharp scissors

Download from Craftsy

Download from Etsy

The round edge of the flap will not be edges so cutting is evenly and smooth is important so it looks good once finished

Once you have cut out the pattern you will fold it in half lining up the side edges

Sew along each side only where the clips are with a 1/4″ seam allowance

pinch the notch that is at the bottom of the bag make sure the seam is centred, sew along this edge on both sides

This is how it will look

Turn the bag right side out

Now we will pleat the sides of the bag, this part is a little hard to convey through photographs and i recommend checking out my video tutorial to get a better understanding

Sew along the edge about 2 inches, using matching thread will make these pleats less apparent

Now you will choose your closure, im using plastic snaps but this would look very nice with metal snaps too especially if your working with a higher end material

install the snap centered on the flap like so

Now you will install the belt straps

to attach the straps to the bag you will use your snaps if you like, if your worried that wont secure the straps will enough you can sew a few stitches for extra security

Im installing the female end on the bag and the mail end on the end of the strap

This is how it will look!

I also think this would look really good with contrasting stitches on the edge of the flap and on the straps which i might do for my next one 😀

and maybe if i can find a hand me down leather jacket i will make a leather version
