Newborn Scratch Mittens | Charmed By Ashley

Newborn Scratch Mittens

Learn how to make adorably and extremely soft baby mittens, perfect for cold weather and to prevent scratching

Materials

Minky Fabric – for the outer

Flannelette – for the lining

1/4″ – elastic

for 1 mitten cut out two pieces of each fabric, also 5″ of elastic

Place them against each other, right sides together. Normally i just wing things and dont use pins but minky tends to be  very slippery and shifts during the sewing process so i recommend a ton of pins.

This is a photo of a protype so disregard the fabric being different, once you have sewn around each glove leaving the cuff open turn the lining right side out and place that inside the outter piece like shown. If you have any difficulty understanding please check out my tutorial linked below!

Sew around the edge of the cut leaving a 1 inch Gap (which is used for turning)

This is how it will look when you turn it all right sides out with the 1″ hole visible

Place the lining inside the Minky fabric

Sew a 1/2″ hem around the cuff to create the casing for the elastic (the 1″ hole will now be used to insert the elastic)

put the elastic in using a safety pin and secure the two ends with your sewing machine. dont make it too tight as you dont want to cut off circulation on little baby

using a needle and thread do a blind stitch to sew up the 1″ hole and then your done!

So adorable and soft and perfect for my new niece who is ready to enter the world any day now <3!!
