Construction

  1. Cut 16 leaf shapes out of cotton fabric, i cut out 8 in a backing fabric, and 8 out of decorative fabrics. Fussy cutting fabrics to showcase little cute spots on my fabric helps to create a more personalized garland. Cut 8 pieces of quilt batting with the leaf template as well.

2. Create little quilt sandwich, place backing fabric wrong side up, place quilt batting and place last piece of quilt cotton wrong sides down. Pin or use a glue stick to secure the quilt sandwich.

3. Using a zig zag stitch sew all the way around your leafe shape securing all three layers. Use a close zigzag stitch so it gives an applique or satin stitch affect. Some threads might poke through the stitches to give it a more shaddy look, thats totally normal and helps to add character to your leaf as no two leafs are the same in nature!

4. Optionally if you want to add some leaf detail on the leaf you can use your straight stitch or free motion quilting to creat a design to resemble the veins of a leaf.
