Jersey Knit Twist Headband Tutorial

For this tutorial you will need a knit fabric i am using Jersey knit i purchased over at Joann Fabrics

Here are the measurements for all sizes

New born – 12″ x 2″

0 – 6 Months – 13″ x 2 1/2″

6 – 12 Months – 14″ x 3″

1 – 3 years  – 16″ x 3 1/2″

3 to 12 years – 17 x 4″

Teen to Adult – 21″ x 5″ (for a wider band increase to 6 or 7″)

Cut two rectangles the size you desire, if you are making this for yourself you can measure your own head where you would like the headband to sit on your head and go with those measurements or refer to my sizing chart

Fold both rectangles in half length ways with the right sides facing each other and sew along the long raw edge

Flip your two rectangles right sides out and lay the flat

To create the twist you will lay one across the other in a X pattern

Fold over the bottom strip

Fold the other piece like so

sew each sides down making sure each strip isnt twisted on itself

Bring both ends  together and sew all 4 layers together

If you have a serger you can choose to serge these raw edges as they can be visible when you are not wearing the headband

If you don’t have a serger then you can do a zig zag stitch along the raw edge

This is how it should look and then just flip it so the raw edge is on the inside so it will be against your head and your done!
