Easy No raw edges pillow case – sewing tutorial

This tutorial is for a simple pillow case, of course a pillow case is very simple if you know how to sew a straight stitch but i will show you how to make this pillow case without any raw edges

For this tutorial i am using two different cotton fabrics

Main fabric (mario) – 27″ x  19.5

Trim fabric (lime green) – 10″ x 19.5″

All the instructions for this pillow will be at www.youtube.com/charmedbyashley

Cathedral Window Pin cushion sewing tutorial

This beautiful technique can be used in many different ways from full size quilts to pin cushions today i am going to show you how to make this into a pin cushion as it looks absolutely adorable in this way

For this tutorial you will need 3 different fabrics

1 solid fabric and two fun  contrasting cotton fabrics

I chose to do white fabric as it give its a nice clean edge but it does look beautiful in any colour you choose (refer to the colour wheel when choosing contrasting colours)

Measurements for this pattern can easily be customized as your first measurement will dictate the second measurements

The solid fabric will be your largest piece measuring at 10″ x 10″

from here you will cut 4 more squares measuring 4 1/4″     make 1 of those squares the contrasting fabric (the fabric you want to see peeking through)

Please refer to the video for a full tutorial as its a little difficult to understand which photos

Now if you dont want it to be this size you can pretty much make the solid piece of fabric any size you wish and the 4 other pieces of fabric size will be determined once you iron your solid piece of fabric so its very easy to make this into any size you wish and use it in any of your projects!

If you make this pin cushion i would love to see it so please share at my instagram twitter or facebook all @charmedbyashley

Heart Wristlet

Super Cute heart wristlet!
Things you will need
main fabric – Arrow fabric
lining fabric – chevron
zipper that spands the width of your heart – zipper
a metal loop, key finding, jewelry finding to attach the wrist strap – D ring
fusible fleece – http://go.magik.ly/ml/3od5/
Slice two of the piece of fabric in half as shown , this is where zipper will be placed

cut and iron fusible fleece to fit the heart 1/4″ smaller (this will help reduce the bulk in the edges of the heart

Using a hot iron press both sides, if you dont have fusible fleece a stabilizer material  will work as well

place the top of the heart (main fabric) on your table right side facing up, place the zipper zipper side down onto the piece of fabric lining up the edges of the zipper with the bottom part of the heart piece, place the lining fabric ontop of the zipper right sides facing down. sew along the that edge as close to the zipper as you can get, if you have a zipper foot that would be the best option.

if you have difficulties placing the fabric please refer to my video tutorial linked below

once you finished sewing the zipper on fold the two pieces of fabric back to expose the zipper and sew along the edge near the zipper about a 1/4″ away for a nice top stitch

now we will attach the bottom of the heart, laying down the main fabric and then the zipper portion (zipper down) and then lining right sides down, making sure the edges of the fabric all line up and the bottom of the hear lines up with the top of the heart on the sides. sew next to the zipper, sometimes its hard to get past the zip so if you sew a small portion of it and then take the piece of out of your machine to move the zip then you can get past it better.

flip open the fabric to expose the zipper and again top stitch 1/4″ away from the zipper
Note the zipperfoot is very handy and can butt up to the zipper
Now its time to attach the back of the heart!
keeping the sewn portion facing up, lay the main fabric heart down onto the sewn portion right sides down, then lay the lining fabric on top with the right side facing up.
slip in the loop on the right hand corner of the heart and pin in place.
FOR THE LOOPS AND WRISTLET STRAP TAKE THE STRIPS OF FABRIC FOLD IN EITHER SIDE 1/2″ AND PRESS, FOLD AGAIN AND PRESS
THE STRAP SHOULD BE 1/2″ WIDE IN THE END, SEW ALONG THE EDGE TO CREATE THE STRAP
OR IF YOU DONT HAVE PATIENCE FOR THAT! USE RIBBON :d
Sew all around the perimeter of the heart, once you have passed over the zipper (slowly) open it up half way and then continue on sewing the entire thing
once finished flip it right sides out
it takes a minute or two and a little bit of finessing but it should look like this!
now for some top stitching

very slow and steady when you go over your zipper! if its metal zip over the teeth!
and then your done! just in time for your valentines day dinner 😀 how adorable and it will fit a samsung s7 some money and a few small makeup items so thats a plus!
