Bowl Cozy Sewing Tutorial

For this tutorial you will need Cotton fabric (or flannel) and a insulating fabric there are many different options on the market and even some that are used for the inside of oven mitts but for hot soup or cold ice cream you can use two layers of a fleece or fusible fleece

I just had some yellow fleece on hand so i used that and two pattern cotton

The first thing you will do is cut out two pieces of fabric 10″ x 10″ and 2 of your lining fabric at 10″ x 10″

This bowl cozy fits a standard cereal bowl” in the photos i have a correlle bowl

Watch the tutorial here!

place the lining and outer fabrics wrong sides together and sew an X from corner to corner such as shown

At this point you can of course experiment with your machine, do some quilting, maybe add more lines or use your free arm and put swirls and curvy designs totally up to you if you want to add some personality to your bowl cozy

Now you take a square fold it in half and on the folded edge you will measure 2 inches down and 1 inch from the corner on the raw edge, draw a line from both points and you will sew on that line

you will do this on each side of the square and do the exact same on the other square for a total of 8″ times these are referred to as “darts” so you will have 8 darts which you will then see the fabric start to form into the shape of your bowl cozy

This is how they will look after you have done all your darts, from here you will place them right sides together making sure you line up the seams and the corners with each other

sew along the edge with a quarter of an inch seam allowance and leave a hole at some place about 2 or 3 inch’s long to be used for turning

turn it right sides out and make sure you poke out all your corners, the great thing about this is it is reversible also!

top stitch about 1/4″ away from the edge to finish off the edge and then your Done!!

Pom Pom Wreath tutorial

It takes about 50-60 pom poms to make this wreath depending on how full you want it to be

When creating your pom poms be sure to leave a long tail of thread or wire so you can use that to attach it onto your wreath form, This wreath form was from michaels, i bunched them up about 3 together, i used 3 different yarns for this one, 1 Cream ball – Charism by loops and thread, 1 White ball – charisma by loops and thread, and a bernat blanket yarn in a cream colour

to make your pom pom smooth and fluffy like i did check out my prior blog post where i show you how to do it  POM POM TUTORIAL

I used floral wire to make and attach my pom poms as shown its nice a strong and i dont have to worry about it snapping if i were to use a thread or yarn, because i used the wire it will create a surface that can scratch your door so after i create my entire wreath i will put felt or fleece on the back to create a barrier between the wires and the door

i kinda want to smoosh my face in it

i just cut my felt and hot glued it onto the back to cover up the wires

Easy! Wrapping paper gift bag

A very simple solution to wrap those hard to wrap gifts, and save a tree and not buy boxes of every single odd shaped item!

ensure the wrapping paper overlaps over the item, there is 5″ extra on the bottom where the base of the bag will be and 4″ extra above the item where the bag will fold over to close

remove the item, crease the paper and tape down the seam, fold over one edge of the paper about a half an inch to give a nice clean finish

place a few pieces of tape to secure

Fold up the paper, 4 – 5 inches, or depending on the side of the gift fold accordingly

I’m placing two t-shirts inside this bag so i folded up 5″

lay the fold down to create two triangles on either side

fold the tips of the triangles over lapping a 1/4″ and secure with lots of tape

This is how the inside of the bag will appear, to add more structure to the bag you can place a cardboard square that fits over the seams but it isn’t necessary for light items which is really what i would recommend this for as wrapping paper isnt very strong.

Standing up the bag with the gift inside folder over the top by 2″, from here you can tape it down or choose to place two holes and a ribbon through the holes to add a little sparkle
